Dear Parents:
On Wednesday, October 23, we will be giving the PSAT 8/9 test on the middle school campus. The cost is $14.00 and is available to 8th grade students. The PSAT 8/9 allows students to practice and prepare for the SAT. It gives them an opportunity to experience timed tests since they tend to struggle with the time constraints of the SAT and ACT. In addition, the PSAT corresponds directly to the SAT, and with the results, you will receive information on how to continue to prepare for the SAT based on your student’s scores.
For students who want to practice the test beforehand, they can go to collegeboard.org;
select PSAT 8/9 drop down menu; then select prepare for the test. If you would like for your son or daughter to take the PSAT 8/9, please have him or her come by the counselor’s office to sign up by Oct 10. Please make checks payable to Mineola Middle School. Space is limited, so students should sign up soon. If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Dudley at 903-569-5338.
Parents, Families and Friends: I would like to clarify our schedule on Fridays for lunch purposes. Typically our lunch times are 6th grade at 12:10 and 7th and 8th grade at 12:40. We occasionally have what we call a PLC schedule which allows us time to provide SEL lessons for our students and additional planning time for our teachers. In order to accomplish this, we combine our lunches to one lunch at 12:40. If you would like to come eat lunch with your student and are not sure what time we will be having lunch, please feel free to call our front office at 903.569.5338. We thank you and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Each year, thousands of schools and youth organizations nationwide participate in Start With Hello Week, a national call-to-action week dedicated to making new social connections and creating a sense of belonging among youth. We're inviting everyone to join us in dressing according to daily themes next week as we participate in Start with Hello! Monday - "Let your kindness shine!" by wearing wearing NEON colors, Tuesday - Wear tie-dye to show we're "Tied together with respect", Wednesday - Wear green to "Support the Sandy Hook Promise", Thursday - Wear a superhero shirt to "Be a Hero" (Help, Encourage, Respect Others), Friday - Wear ORANGE because "We are ALL Jackets"!
All parents/guardians of students in grades 4-8 are invited to join Mrs. Caitlin Graham from the Northeast Texas Child Advocacy Center to discuss internet safety and bullying. This presentation is for adults only. Child care will be provided for the length of the event so you can learn and discuss freely. MMS students whose parent/guardian attends will receive 10 Jacket Bucks! MIS students whose parent/guardian attends will receive 20 Buzz Bucks!

Fall pictures will be taken Friday, September 6th. How to dress -- simple is best! Stick with a simple light to medium toned (not too dark) shirt or dress with no writing or logos. Avoid white, black, neon, or busy patterns.
Good evening!! Thank you so much for coming to open house last night!! I had a few commonly asked questions that I would like to clarify!
**Dress code** The only changes are no rubber or soft sole sandals/slides or flip flops, any jeans with holes at the knee or above must have leggings under them.
**Arrival/ Dismissal** Middle school car rider students will continue to be dropped off in the front (no earlier than 7:15) and picked up in the back ( starting at 3:40). They are permitted to enter either door and make their way to the cafeteria. For dismissal, if you have a student at the intermediate school, they will join them in the gym to load cars in the back.
**Breakfast/ Lunch** Breakfast will begin at 7:15 and end at 7:45. Lunch is closed to visitors. Starting in September , students may have visitors and lunch dropped off on Fridays only. Lunches may only be provided by people who are on that students skyward profile. We do not allow lunch to be brought to friends due to safety concerns.
**Electronic devices** Cell phones, watches (that are connected to the internet) and air pods are prohibited once they arrive on campus. They must be kept in their back packs until the first bell and then will be placed in their lockers until the final bell.
**7th grade shot records** There are several 7th grade students who still do not have an updated shot record. They will not be permitted (per state law) to begin school until we have an updated record or a current conscientious objection.

Parents, we want to remind you that the state requires students shot records or conscientious objections to be current in order to begin the school year. If we do not have shot records by the first day of instruction, your student will be withdrawn. Thank you for your understanding.

Today is registration day!! Every student must be registered every year. You may complete registration through skyward. Once completed, your students schedule will be accessible in skyward! If you have any questions, please give us a call at 903-569-5338 between 8:30am- 3:30pm.

We are so excited to welcome our 6th graders to MMS!!! There will be a brief parent meeting at the beginning of the orientation. Once that has concluded, you may leave your students with us for a morning of introductions, locker combinations and more!! Hope to see you all Tuesday, July 30!
