NEW Nine Week Grading Schedule

Mineola ISD strives to ensure that our students are provided the best opportunity to learn at high levels personalized for each child. With that objective for student centered learning in mind, MISD has made the decision to join many other districts in transitioning from a six week grading period to a nine week grading period beginning the 2018-19 school year.  Following are reasons we believe a nine week grading period will benefit our students:

  • Longer grading periods allow students more time to complete major projects and apply the skills learned prior to the end of the grading period
  • Additional time is available for students to receive intervention and raise their grades
  • More time for instruction rather than assessing for six week grades
  • A longer grading cycle allows for make-up time for extra-curricular activities conflicts
  • More consistent grading periods with relatively the same amount of days in each semester with the first semester ending at Christmas

It is important to note that parents have the ability to check their child’s academic progress and grades 24/7 through the Skyward Parent Portal.  Progress reports will still be available every 3 weeks for Middle School and High School UIL purposes.

Our plan is to expand more meaningful parent conferences in the Fall and Spring and move towards student led conferences as we continue to personalize instruction and build each student’s capacity to direct and report on their own academic progress.
