Dr. John Abbott

"You cannot achieve greatness simply by claiming greatness.  It takes a vision, a plan and a team to help oversee the plan and make it work." I am excited about the opportunity to work with other board members and district administrators to ensure that our students are prepared to be the best.  Teaching Spanish and English at MHS was my first teaching job when I graduated from college and I consider it both an honor and a privilege to be back working with others to help MISD achieve the exemplary status that it is capable of attaining.

John Abbott was elected to the board in May 2011.  He graduated from John H. Reagan High School in Austin, and holds a Bachelors Degree in Spanish and English from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos (now Texas State University), a Masters Degree in counseling from Texas A&M-Commerce and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from the same university. Dr. Abbott is a retired educator with experience in public school, private school and university settings.  He is a past-president of the Mineola Kiwanis Club and served as a director of the Mineola Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Mineola Civic Center Board of Directors and Chairman of the Wood County Child Welfare Board.  Dr. Abbott and his wife, Janell (a math teacher at MHS), are the proud aunt and uncle of J.R. Bane (MHS Class of 2006). They are members of the First United Methodist Church in Mineola.

Kellam Newell

"Beginning my fourth year as a Mineola ISD Board Trustee, I remain humbled and honored to serve the students, staff, teachers, and administrators of Mineola ISD, and the community of Mineola.  I began my tenure as a community member who simply believed in contributing.  That has not changed.  Our school deserves the very best, and everyone at Mineola ISD works very hard to ensure that excellence is aimed for in every area and relation.  Every individual at Mineola ISD is student focused.  Every dollar spent is student focused.  That focus leads to Mineola ISD graduates who are college and career ready."

"Much has been achieved in the last few years, and Mineola ISD is improving in all areas year over year.  There is still much to be done.  With the community's help, we can work together for all things Mineola - school, city, and commerce."

Kellam is a college educated business professional with over 35 years sales, marketing, and business development experience in various industries.  He is currently a licensed insurance producer and business consultant.  He has lived in Mineola for 16 years with his wife and two daughters.  Both daughters attended Mineola schools, beginning in kindergarten, and graduating high school with honors.  Kellam is a past president and member in good standing with the Mineola Kiwanis Club, and board member of the Maxcine Nash Scholarship Corporation.  He and his family are active in Community Christian Fellowship in Garden Valley.

“I have been on the Mineola ISD Board of Trustees since 2002.  It is rewarding to know that the community has faith in me as a Board member by allowing me to continue to serve. I am proud to be a part of a district that is Recognized academically and has recently excelled in most sports programs.

The most important aspect of Mineola ISD is student achievement.  It is important that all students are successful and that we provide a quality education for all students who walk through our doors.  I feel that Mineola ISD offers a quality education that will help make kids successful not only as students but in reaching their goals for the future.” Dr. Kyle Gully is a Physician and Medical Director at the Trinity Mother Frances Mineola Medical Clinic.  He is a graduate of The University of Texas Medical School at Houston, where he received his M.D. degree.  He received his BBA/Pre-Med at The University of Texas at Austin.  He graduated from North Shore Senior High School in Houston.

“It is such a privilege to serve in a community that has been my lifelong home.  The district is moving in an awesome direction and the board has very high expectations for what the future holds both now and in the long term.  This is a very exciting time to be serving with the board of trustees. This opportunity to be a small part of such a large team of people that are helping create and mold children into the adults that they will leave MISD as, is a great responsibility and privilege.”
